The main scope behind this research, is to offer a general idea of the indicative total cost of medical treatments, rehabilitation, advanced diagnostic methods and surgical procedures, all being materialized within the borders of the European Union and overseas (especially the United States of America) and compensated by Greece's National Provider of Healthcare Services known under the general name of EOPYY . A second objective of this work is to propose possible alternatives that could lead to money-saving via cost-minimization procedures. One such alternative should be the realization of those treatments in Greece by specialists trained abroad and in prices relevant to the Greek DRG's. Unfortunately, data provided by Greece's EOPYY is incomplete. Total costs are not finally liquidated -in the majority of cases only an initial fee (fee in advance) has been handed to us- probably due to the fact that the compensation procedure- as international experience has shown -takes a period of 1 up to 3 years, and in some cases over 5 years, in order to be completed. In addition to that, one needs to consider that EOPYY is a generally new organization with only short-lived history (2012-2014) and it is also unanimous admitted that it lacks personnel. Even under those circumstances, a simple comparison between the Greek DRG's (as demonstrated in the 4th chapter) and the initial fee (payment in advance) paid by EOPYY is revealing, because in a great amount of cases, the latter is enormously larger than the former. Having always in mind Greece's difficult financial situation, searching for alternatives should be a top priority.
