The study examines the impact of the European financial crisis on sales of diesel vehicles for countries belonging to the European Union of 15 and the European Free Trade Association, EFTA 3. The method used is the Difference in Differences for panel data, considering as control group the number of total sales of petrol cars and as treatment group the number of total sales of diesel vehicles in the above countries, for the years 2010 and 2011.
The deletion of the unobserved effects for each country is carried out by taking the differences between the two periods. Through the appropriate regression model shows that the financial crisis has led to significant changes in the sales of diesel vehicles in the year 2011, equal to 55.621 vehicles.
