Abstract

This diploma thesis in developing a full application for managing medical examinations, as an autonomous component of content management platform CMS JOOM LA 2.5. Has been created in such a way that it can be installed and uninstalled directly from the administration platform to any site uses Joomla 2.5 technology even if it is a site already made or if it is a site which is now manufactured. The component is called Medical Records and was developed in php programming language and the database is MySQL. I also used Adobe Dreamweaver as a development environment for php code and testing the connections to the database. The philosophy of the Medical Records application is the existence of an online medical examinations record for patients wherever they are. Each user who creates an account on the site and then makes login can import test results (e.g. blood tests), seek results of previous examinations and print the examinations results. Also examination results can be imported from doctors on behalf for their patients. This assumes that the doctor is an application user and knows his patient's id. Finally there is a ready list of most hospitals and medical centers in Greece so that there is a search feature when registering examinations. Given that the application is web based, and there must be an administrator, the component Medical Records has all possible management features for the records in the backend of the platform following the philosophy of Joomla and without requiring the administrator to become familiar with new procedures.
