The present study aims to investigate the basic economic, institutional and individual factors that affect employability, career choices, job find, the duration of unemployment and career development through a holistic approach and a combination of labor economics with modern career guidance. The focus of the thesis is the creation of an original mathematical model which predict the ability or difficulty of job find in the case of various people with particular interests, inclinations, preferences under the umbrella of certain economic and institutional factors. Or vice versa, the determination of the duration of unemployment for various individuals, in relation to economic and institutional factors and their personal characteristics, their inclinations and preferences, their school performance and decisiveness, their economic and family conditions. In order to identify and verify our prototype model, we conducted empirical research, attended by 304 people of various ages, work environment, educational level, family status and socioeconomic status. Those people completed a specific questionnaire and the career test named Career Gate Test K.17 Plus. The method used was that of multiple linear regressions, with the introduction of independent variables such as gender, age, self-image, decisiveness, occupational prospects, level of education, school performance, family income, occupation of parents, means of job search and financial state. After diagnostics problems of autocorrelation, heteroscedasticity and non- normality, our investigation resulted in the best models that define the dependent variables, the duration of job search and unemployment, as well as the frequency of job change. Original and valid tools were developed for research applications in labor economics issues, career counseling, career development and human resources management, specifying the trends of difficulty in finding and maintaining work in occupations that are consistent with the personality characteristics of particular persons. The findings of our statistical models confirm the golden rule of career development and prove that people with strong will and determination, may choose from a wider range of occupations that match their personality type, even from these professions where the mixture of other factors such as occupational prospects, personal, family and financial data, are negative and vice versa.
