During the last years, the international scientific community is focusing on the disaster of the natural environment. The fact that climate change constitutes a significant problem with negative effects and impacts in the global economy and the natural environment is widely accepted. Human activities hold serious responsibility in that. Another factor that should be added in the natural disaster is the energy problem in universe. This means the correlation of the energy supplies which are reducing and the energy consumption which are increasing. With rising fuel costs eating into margins and more regulations on emissions pending, owners and managers in the shipping segment are actively evaluating different designs and technologies to improve operational efficiency. The Renewable Sources of Energy can be a solution on this problem. RSE are inexhaustible (renewable) energy reserves and their use is friendly (gently) in the natural environment. The purpose of the present study is to examine issues related to the maritime transport and its contribution to the climate change. The use of Renewable Sources of Energy seems to play an important role in shipping, but except the ecological point of view we have to look at the expenses that these changes cause. At this research the renewable energy resources and their use on ships are studying the economical, but also the ecological advantages and disadvantages for a shipping company. Inspired plans in building new ships which combine the use of new technologies and the renewable sources of energy foreshadow a different future for shipping. The volatile shipping market, rising fuel prices and upcoming environmental regulations are driving the maritime industry towards more cost-effective and environmentally friendly operations.
