The thesis purports to study the role of debt and its service in economic growth in a panel of five European countries over the last twenty years. This thesis present basic aspect of the neoclassical growth theory then extensively reviewed the related literature and summarizes its findings and lastly presents the empirical evidence. Overall, the findings show public debt, real investment and government consumption significantly affect in positive way, economic growth in all countries under investigation. The findings are consistent and in line with economic theory and past related studies.
