Abstract
Social Security is always a topical issue of debates and demands, especially in periods like present, when the global financial crisis is putting much pressure on national economies and consequently in social policymaking. The social policy of states was the main topic during the period of industrialization and then, when it was realized that was required a universal model of protection from risks arising from the new forms of jobs. Social Security is a product and result of proceedings that are related to the economic and social developments, the financial system of an era and a place, but also with the existing perceptions for human relationships and social aspirations of people. It is a necessary institution for economic and social progress. In the context of this essay, except of the definition of the concept of social security and the causes of its development, which is the beginning of whole social systems, we will also develop the main security systems in Europe, based on the philosophy that are developed, but we will focus on the security system in Greece, too, where we will describe the main institutions through which social security in our country is provided. Our aim is to conclude in a comparative result of the development of the security systems in Greece with those ones of Europe, in countries such as Italy, Germany, France, Denmark and United Kingdom.
