Abstract
This research examines the slot allocation at airports including information on factors affecting it. The continuous growth of air transport in recent decades has put increasing pressure on available capacity for aircraft movements at congested airports.
After the creation of a single aviation market in the 90’s, it was necessary to establish rules on the use of slots, which are defined as the authorization given bay the coordinator, to any carrier to use the full range of airport infrastructure, which is necessary, to operate an air service at a coordinated airport, a specific day and time for landing or takeoff.
The slots are allocated in a fair, impartial and transparent manner by an independent coordinator, to the fullest and most efficient use of existing capacity at congested airports, while aiming to maximize the benefit of the consumers and to promote competition.
