The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of MS Word GUI on the users’ experience of interacting with the system. The main aim is to minimize the difficulties of the traditional evaluation techniques by implementing a user modelling component into a web based questionnaire measuring the user satisfaction from the application’s interface. This thesis consists of three main processes. The first one is an evaluation of MS Word with a focus group of post graduate students who were being asked a set of questions concerning the usability, the design and the help system of the software and gave a final score that was used as a reference for expert users. The second process is describing the development of a questionnaire and the research that has been held towards the satisfaction of the users that took part. Finally, the last part of this thesis, using the data that have been collected, describes the development of a user modelling component, the deployment of a web-based questionnaire and the final analysis of the responses that were extracted from the online, more adaptive, user satisfaction measurement tool. The results clearly stated that appropriately targeted research of user satisfaction from a GUI, works better as it eliminates all possible mistakes and difficulties of the more classic approaches in the evaluation of user interfaces.
