Abstract
Greece is one of the strongest and most important maritime countries of the world and over time its commercial shipping is one of the pillars of the national economy. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the quantitative relationships of the maritime industry with other selected sectors of the Greek economy in 2005. Specifically it examines the Maritime industry, Manufacturing, Construction and Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry, in terms of interdisciplinary markets, income, employment, value added and indirect taxes. The empirical application will produce results which give a broad view of the shipping’s relations with the others sectors and its contribution to the Greek economy. The knowledge of the structure of the economy and the evaluation of the sectors in economic terms can help practitioners of economic policy in the selection of appropriate measures of action.
