In order for the student to perform and achieve a representative to examine the issue analysis, this thesis divides into chapters as follows. The first chapter then gives a historical overview on the history of Greek shipping and the importance of Greek-owned shipping fleet in the world. The second chapter, respectively, indicating the types of marine accidents and their causes and the third chapter discusses the importance of human factors in maritime accidents. The fourth chapter analyzes the relevant statistical tables for the human losses in the years 1996 to 2002, the cost of human loss on the basis of Greek shipping and the findings of the statistical analysis of tables and finally the last chapter attempts to answer if an accident-free work environment is an attainable goal or dream unfulfilled today. Major purpose of student in particular dissertation, is to cite and analyze in details the consequences which could arise by the cost of human loss at sea accidents as also to be concerned with the loss arise to Greek shipping by those accidents in period between 1997 to 2002.
