Abstract
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a method that is used for measuring the efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs). An important area of development in recent years has been devoted to applications where DMUs represent two-stage or network processes. One particular subset of such processes is that in which all the outputs from the first stage are intermediate measures that make up the only inputs to the second stage. The resulting two-stage DEA model provides not only an overall efficiency score for the entire process, but as well yields an efficiency score for each of the individual stages. The aim of the master thesis is a neat and complete literature review and comparative presentation of the various approaches and models that have been developed in the framework of two-stage DEA.
