This postgraduate thesis’ objective is the design and development of an embedded system that detects and corrects the pitch of musical signals. The peculiar nature of the application presents a unique chance to study and deeply understand the concept of pitch of an audio signal, the way that people interpret it and the different algorithms and methods that have been proposed over the years for its recognition and manipulation by a computer system. Furthermore, the challenge of development of such an embedded system, leads to the use of new and more advanced design and debug tools, to the deeper comprehension of methods for hardware / software co-development and create a unique perception of the operation details and the design secrets of embedded systems in general.
