The purpose of this thesis is to focus on crimes carried out on the internet or via the internet that affect the personal data of internet users. The 1 chapter deals with the term of information and the meaning of personal data. The 2nd chapter analyzes the architecture of Internet. The 3rd chapter focuses not only on the most prevalent ways of internet crimes but also on the newer ones, thus demonstrating the growth and diversity of these crimes. The 4th chapter examines the legislation and rules that are legislated in Greece and in the European Union and all the official authorities that are responsible for safety and privacy on the Internet. Finally, the 5th chapter refers to the ways in which a user can be defended from these attacks either by using software or by simple tips on how to behave while navigating the internet. At the end, we demonstrate an example of how we can obtain personal data with the use of malicious code.
