Abstract
Maritime Education aims at the provision of all the appropriate knowledge, which leads to the creation of those Navigation Officers, who are in every way ready and able to man the Merchant Marine of Hellas. Merchant Marine is one of great importance and, moreover, independent branch of the Hellenic Economy. From the middle of the 18th century Maritime Education has been continuously evolved. Nowadays, studies in it are alternated between theoretical and practical skills, a system known as Sandwich Courses, which last for 4 years. By finishing the studies the graduates attain both Academy Certificate and Certificate of Officer Class C’. Since 2005 several changes have been took part, such as the free participation of woman, free choice of the students concerning either inside or outside way of studying, a differentiation of the percentages to the Special Categories of the candidates and the internal exchange of those populations, and finally, the last positive tense of youth for joining the Maritime Academies. The subjects referring to this paper are offered for further study, taking as granted that the latest changes have been focusing in the last half decade 2005-2009. The above period is able to inform us just for the number of students succeeding in and not for the number succeeding out.
