The Mediterranean neighborhood is consisted of countries with common history but they have evolved in a completely different ways. The distance between the north and the south countries is relatively minor comparing to the great gap between perception and policies. Modern economies with strong privatization sector and bold structural policies are the main characteristics of North, and low privatization, national owned fleets and lack of investment frame in the other side. The national shipping policies of the main economies of the Mediterranean region are described during the period from 1995 to 2002.
