Bunkering a vessel is supposed to be an art, considering that in tramp shipping no voyage is exactly the same with the other. Τhis essay is referred to "bunkers" and "bunkering". It presents the present condition of bunkers market and players involved in it after the new regulations about sulphur emissions entered in force. This study focuses in two directions. Firstly we analyze the procedures of bunkering through the shipping office and physical delivery to the vessel. On the second part, we examine how the new regulations affect bunkering in technological, economical, and managing level. For this reason, a survey has been conducted, through questionnaires, given to 23 shipping companies with ocean-going vessels. The evaluation of the results reveals that Greek Shipowners are reluctant to adopt the new regulations although they resist to increases at operational costs. For this purpose, they change their routes avoiding sulphur emission control areas and they use economical tools such as hedging.
