The sea has always offered many opportunities for large profits. The risks, however, that threatened the economic relations of persons involved in this, laid the foundations for the creation of the institution of insurance. Thus the function appears as a response to risk, providing proper follow-up to this economic activity, where many persons threatened by common dangers could cover the damage suffered at all concerned with the carriage. The insurance is even more important when the transferred material forms part of the dangerous cargo. The present work has as main objective the promotion of the importance of maritime security, particularly those directed at hazardous loads. To achieve this goal, the work is divided into six chapters. In the first chapter, analyzing general notions concerning the ship and the course and development of shipping nationally and internationally. The second chapter presents information relating to maritime security. In particular, it does a history of maritime security, presents key figures and described details of insurance policies. In the third chapter, made an analysis of basic discrimination of dangerous cargoes by sea and the obligations of the carrier. The fourth chapter presents the market requirements for the handling of hazardous cargo using various means such as airplanes, trains, trucks, boats, etc. The fifth chapter discusses the state of international and national laws of the waterway dangerous cargoes and any amendments made to some of them. The sixth chapter is presented through case law sometimes insurance charges and how they are treated by the courts and the work concludes with a summary of conclusions and recommendations.
