This dissertation discourses the economic competitiveness of the ports and port infrastructures from the user’s point of view. Through the port disbursements study and by introducing a prototype “competitiveness ratio” which combines the port expenses with the economic efficiency of a commercial operation, we are essaying the relevant appraisal of the ports, sorted by geographical market. Furthermore, by running a review of the pertinent international literature enriched by factual recent examples, we accomplish a detailed analysis of the pricing policies of the individual ports, of the construction of the applied dues and levies, of the relevant competition and of the pricing behavior of a port dependant on its external feedback. Finally, we furnish the most competitive port structures as well as the geographical markets which gather the higher and lower competitive ports.
