Following the new technological development in the field of health and at the same time creating the hospital of the 21st century, the Health Information Systems creates an informative infrastructure that will correspond completely in user’s requirements. Internationally software with different features have been developed such as patients classification in a department, nursing department, processing management and human resources management data, organization and management of patients and diseases in a hospital department, organization of patient care. At some sophisticated Health Information Systems there are the possibilities to process data which can provide proposals for nursing activities or even to give the diagnoses. In Greece the Health Information Systems is not widely used due to significant lack of trained and qualified staff, the absence of regular budget for health institutions, capable rate of investment in the information development and lack of institutional body issues. The development of Health Information Systems is mainly to help reduce the cost of patient’s hospitalisation, controlling materials, examinations, etc., and improve productivity in areas such as pricing and archiving, reducing human errors by health professionals, reducing unjustified treatments, and also improve the quality of healthcare.
