The Mediterranean Sea is a hub of international maritime transportation and, at the same time, is a source of economic and social wealth for all the countries it surrounds. Marine pollution is an issue which has always been drawing public attention, especially after significant maritime accidents. There has been a great debate and discussion as to the role of maritime transportations in marine pollution creation. This research projects examines the marine transportations and their role in marine pollution of the Mediterranean Sea and explores the reverberations of such pollution. To achieve the research objectives a literature review was deployed using recent publication by reliable and reputable bodies directly related to EU Mediterranean Environmental policy and International Maritime. The study has found that the role of Maritime transportation in Mediterranean Sea pollution is important. Nevertheless, the contribution of Maritime transports in Mediterranean Sea pollution is not mainly from oil related incidents than from other pollution sources such as the air pollutants and the transfer of alien species via ballast waters.
