The issue of ship-generated waste and cargo residues reception and management consists one of the main features of European and International Maritime Policy. This acceptance can be easily recognized in specific national policy decisions and international contracts. Under the current thesis we will try to update the collective bibliographical scientific knowledge concerning ship-generated waste and cargo residues reception and management. We will try to analyze the spirit of the Community Directive 2000/59/EC and the course of its implementation by Greece and other European countries (this means that most of the legislation and regulation that has been produced by the Hellenic legislating system will be examined thoroughly). We will also stress that all legislative initiatives concerning ship-generated waste and cargo residues reception and management lead to one scope which is the effective preservation of sea environment.
