Abstract
This thesis describes the procedure of gas emissions from ships and their part in Greenhouse effect. Presented sectors and source categories, which are responsible for the gases and take part in the Kyoto mechanisms, also we refer to the role that transport (road, air, sea,) takes to Greenhouse effect. Continuing there is an analysis of the MEPC resent meetings, MARPOL Annex VI and the new Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council (2009/209/EC), whose aim is to find new measures or improving the already existing ones, to reduce the gas emissions. Finally proposed technical and non-technical solutions for achieving the goal of reduction, and possible disadvantages that may come up with the implementation of these solutions.
