The formulation of a national strategy on energy for each country-member of the European Union, and hence for our country as well, is the result of a complicated equation, which takes into account the rules of the market, many investment opportunities, European priorities and national commitments. Its promotion requires at an institutional level an appropriate legislative and financial framework, mechanisms to control competition and a mid- and long-range national planning, in order to achieve the desired objectives about energy and the environment. At a technological level, it requires a careful selection of suitable technologies that satisfy the priorities – limitations set. Renewable Sources of Energy (RSE) are such a strategic choice: They have matured and are therefore safe, competitive and attractive to investors, their use contributes towards the improvement of environmental indicators and especially in the reduction of CO2 emissions and the dependence of imported oil. As a result, they are considered to be a viable solution for the three main problems that the energy sector faces: sufficiency of reserves, security of restocking and protection of the environment.
