Abstract
The rapid growth of Computer Science and Informatics nowadays has resulted in the development of new scientific fields. The science of Geographic Information Systems and GeoInformatics presents one such field which in turn demonstrates continuous growth not only in Greece, but also worldwide. The following dissertation aims at explaining and describing the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in relation to Demographic Characteristics. Us, in the first chapter we will provide a general description of GIS, concentrating on their different functions, forms and design principles. In the second chapter, we will examine the field of cartography. Specifically, we will look at the various methods used and their success in the field, as well as the different types of maps available and how they are created. Finally, in the third chapter we will deal with the use of GIS in conjunction with demographics.
