This thesis contains two parts. The first four chapters are the theoretical part and the following two parts present the case study of the three municipalities of Athens, Tavros and Zografou including the final results. In the beginning the financial situation of the First Level Of Local Government (LG) is presented according to facts and figures that were collected from KEDKE and ITA. This was necessary in order to be understood the circumstances under which LG has to accomplish its goals not only at the present but also in the future. In the following Chapter the terms of Logistics and Supply Chain Management are presented and explained according to the needs of LG. In Chapter 3 we analyze the crucial role that Inventory Management and Materials Planning play as a more specific part of the Supply Chain. It becomes clear that LG can benefit from their implementation. The three case Studies in the pre-mentioned Municipalities prove that the lack of Logistics Management in LG causes maladministration following from a number of other various problems. On the other hand when there is good will and efficient effort to implement these strategies, the municipalities then obtain a very useful and precious tool that helps them in cost reduction and effective administration.
