This master thesis focuses on the design and the development of a digital educational tour of cultural monuments in the city of Athens incorporating elements of Geometry and Entrepreneurship. The monument tours were carried out through Augmented Reality, and the activities included features of gamified learning. The study investigates the contribution of such a scenario to enhancing the participants’ Intrinsic Motivation and Agentic Engagement.
During the tour, participants are invited to obtain information about the monuments by scanning the marker points on the card of each destination. Through this process, some digital resources are displayed, revealing aspects of History, Architecture, Mathematics, and Entrepreneurship. After each tour, the achievement of the learning outcomes is evaluated through some activities. At the end, visitors are requested to evaluate the destination experience and provide feedback for improvements.
To achieve the purpose of the research regarding the assessment of the impact of the e-course on strengthening participants’ Intrinsic Motivation and Agentic Engagement, a two-phase questionnaire was implemented. Participants completed the first questionnaire before attending the course (pre-test) and another at the end of the course (post-test). The two-phase procedure was selected to allow for comparison of the statistics before and after participation in the experience, and to draw conclusions about the changes in performance and their significance.
Findings from the pilot study indicated that participation in the scenario improved the levels of Intrinsic Motivation and Agentic Engagement of the participants. The results suggest a trend that is recommended for further investigation through additional testing.
