The Eastern Mediterranean has recently emerged as a region of increasing geopolitical and energy significance, functioning both as a source of natural gas production and a potential corridor for energy transportation to Europe. Energy developments, combined with the European Union's growing need to diversify its energy supply, have renewed interest in the strategic dynamics of the area. The motivation for this study stems from the need to assess the role of energy hubs in the Eastern Mediterranean and to highlight the technical, institutional, and geopolitical factors shaping their future. The research includes a comprehensive literature review, focusing on extraction, transport, and regasification infrastructures, as well as on regional cooperation frameworks currently in place or under development. The findings indicate that, despite the promising infrastructure and cooperation efforts, major concerns remain regarding project viability, regional stability, and compatibility with long-term decarbonization strategies. The conclusions emphasize the need for deeper institutional integration and strategic flexibility. This study contributes to the systematization of discourse surrounding the region’s evolving energy architecture and provides both theoretical and empirical groundwork for future academic research and policy planning.
