Abstract

This thesis focused on the financial analysis of public hospitals under the jurisdiction of the 7th Health Region (Y.PE.) of Greece during the period 2019–2023. Through the use of financial ratio analysis, it examined the liquidity, efficiency, capital structure, and overall financial performance of these hospitals. The findings of this study indicated a satisfactory level of liquidity and sustainability, mainly due to the utilization of own equity. However, significant weaknesses were identified in terms of efficiency and operational resource utilization, primarily resulting from the long periods required for the collection of receivables from social security funds. Additionally, the study emphasized the need for strategic improvements, such as the implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, energy upgrades, the application of lean healthcare practices, and the enhancement of staff training. These measures are considered essential for improving the sustainability, efficiency, and quality of healthcare services provided by the public hospitals of Crete.
