Learning geography is now an important part of young people's general education, as it
enhances their spatial and temporal perception, concentration, and critical thinking. The
use of interactive software with multimedia content makes learning more interesting and
experiential.
This thesis concerns the development of a full-stack desktop application entitled
'Interactive geography learning software with virtual map navigation', in the C# .NET
programming language and using an SQL database to store user data. The application
provides an interactive map where students can explore countries, cities, mountains,
lakes, and attractions in Greece and neighboring countries. In addition, the application
incorporates videos, explanatory texts, and hyperlinks that lead to relevant websites for
further information.
The application features learning levels with quizzes, which are tailored to the age
of each user and present escalating difficulty to enhance learning. Users can track their
progress through corresponding tables, and there is the option to create profiles with
personal details and performance records.
Its development is based on modern UX/UI and educational technology principles,
combining experiential learning and multimedia content. In this way, the application not
only enhances students' knowledge of geography, but also promotes critical thinking,
concentration, and active participation in the educational process, while providing easy
access to additional online resources through hyperlinks.
