This thesis examines the influence exerted by Big Tech on the economic and political developments of the European Union and the United States. The theoretical framework presents the fundamental concepts of strategy, strategic management, and lobbying as a non market strategy. It then analyzes the historical evolution of lobbying, the existing legal and regulatory framework, as well as its ethical and social implications. The study focuses on the American technological giants, namely Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft, which, through significant financial resources and specialized strategies, decisively shape policy-making. In the EU, their lobbying efforts are mainly directed toward digital market legislation, data protection, artificial intelligence, and tax policy, while in the US they emphasize avoiding strict regulations, maintaining competitiveness, and shaping conditions for innovation. The research highlights that Big Tech lobbying has direct consequences on the economy, legislation, research, and innovation. At the same time, it creates significant issues of power, transparency, and social responsibility, as the concentration of economic and political resources in the hands of a few multinationals may restrict competition and disproportionately influence public policies. The thesis concludes with proposals to strengthen transparency, establish stricter rules on lobbying, and reinforce oversight mechanisms in order to ensure a balance between innovation and democratic accountability. In this way, it seeks to develop a framework that limits the excessive power of Big Tech while simultaneously promoting economic growth and social welfare.
