This master’s thesis presents the design, development, and implementation of the digital course "The School Travels: A Guide to Designing Experiential Educational Expeditions for Teachers," which aims to train educators in designing experiential educational visits. The course was created to fill a significant gap in the Greek educational reality, where a corresponding, adapted training proposal is absent.
Its instructional design is based on the principles of Experiential Learning (Kolb's Cycle) and Micro-learning. The course structure consciously reflects the phases of experiential learning, organising the content into a three-stage model (Before, During, and After the visit), which is applied to both physical and digital educational visits. The course adopts a synthetic approach, incorporating four pedagogical strategies: Outdoor Learning, Place-Based Learning, Service Learning, and Travel Pedagogy, thus offering a comprehensive toolkit to educators. The Google Classroom platform was chosen for its implementation due to its widespread familiarity in the Greek educational environment.
In conclusion, the thesis offers a complete, practical, and pedagogically sound professional development solution. It provides the necessary theoretical framework and practical skills for creating meaningful learning experiences. The paper also includes a thorough self-evaluation of the course and proposes specific recommendations for future improvements.
