Construction and demolition waste (CDW) accounts for more than one-third of all waste generated in the European Union. The CDW category includes a wide range of materials such as concrete, wood, bricks, glass, plastic, and various metals. CDW also encompasses all waste produced during the construction and demolition of buildings and infrastructure, as well as their maintenance. The general implementation of a construction waste management plan aims to reduce the amount of material sent to landfills during construction by diverting building waste and demolition or land-clearing residues from landfill disposal. Implementing such a management plan also contributes to redirecting recyclable recovered resources back into the production process and reusable materials to suitable locations. From the outset of a project, the resulting waste should be recognized as an integral part of overall material management. The EU has established specific targets and institutional frameworks to achieve increased recycling rates across its territory. This paper describes and evaluates the investment in establishing a CDW recycling facility in the Attica region.
