Nowadays data analytics are becoming increasingly more and more essential for every section of our lives whether this is Health, Economy or Environment. Sports are also a part in which data analysis has seen great progress.
Statistics, Data Science, machine learning and new technologies have positively affected the world of sports, unlocking capabilities and insights that have changed many things. Football, the most famous and commercial sport, has also entered the Data analytics world, since there are tons of data collected out there for each aspect of a football game.
In which fields of football can a team leverage these data and what are the benefits?
Completed passes, tackles, fouls are some of the available data, which teams can now use to monitor and assess teams’ and athletes’ performance. The question that arises here is, which of all these metrics can be related to a qualification, or can be considered as a good performance?
The aim of the present study is to identify the features-metrics that count the most when it comes to group stage qualification in the Champions League competition.
We will use fundamentals of descriptive and inferential statistics as well as general linear model theory.
