Abstract

The following thesis presents the main NOx and SOx reduction technologies produced by marine engines. Technologies for reducing pollutant emissions are divided into “internal” and “external” measures. “Internal measures” refer to technologies that can be applied inside of the marine engines, in combustion chambers. In contrast, using the term “external measures”, reference is made to technologies applied to the exhaust of marine engines, aiming to limit the emissions through exhaust gas treatment. Therefore, the thesis aims to present and critically evaluate the most important internal and external measures to reduce the emissions of NOx and SOx which produced in marine diesel and dual-fuel engines.
