The emergence of the pandemic brought about changes in the organization and the functioning of states, at various levels, such as health, finance, and insurance. The pandemic was the biggest problem on a global scale for a long period, from its appearance until its drastic limitation, causing adverse effects in the various sectors of social and economic life.
Of course, the pandemic has been a topical issue, as it has negatively affected people's safety and quality of life. The purpose of this study surveys individuals' healthcare, particularly their private sector insurance, under the influence of the pandemic.
In particular, the extent of the influence of the SARS-COVID-19 virus on private health insurance is investigated, as well as the effects it brought about on an economic and social level. Accordingly, the degree of influence of the SARS-COVID-19 virus on the quality of private health insurance services.
The research method, which is applied, is the bibliographic review to derive important data regarding the focus of the subject. Specifically, through empirical research in various electronic libraries, such as Scopus, Elsevier, and Google Scholar, as well as in books, recent and authoritative sources were selected, which have as a reference point the influence of the SARS-COVID-19virus, in the private health insurance system, to get valuable information related to the subject under consideration.
The empirical research yielded some useful conclusions regarding the private health insurance system. More specifically, since the period when the World Health Organization declared the pandemic of the novel SARS-CoV-2 (SARS-CoV-2), both the systems and the health authorities have been under evaluation regarding the risks of outbreaks of new emerging infectious diseases.
Besides, the influence of the SARS Covid-19 virus has been strong on private health insurance. Some countries, such as Greece and Spain, reported an increase in insurance premiums, with percentage increases of 9.5% and 5% respectively. In contrast, Italy, Poland, and Bulgaria all experienced a decrease in health insurance premiums.
As units and health professionals focused their primary attention on the care of SARS Covid-19 patients, they postponed several non-urgent operations, leading to a reduction in private health insurance premiums for basic care.
In the international insurance market, the impact from the pandemic was clear, but experts viewed the increase in insurance premiums as milder compared to the international financial crisis of 2008-2009. However, experts speculated that both the life insurance industry and its non-life counterpart are expected to experience a relatively quick recovery.
Of course, the predictions stemmed from the fact of the impact of the SARS Covid-19 virus, where people found out the shortcomings of the public insurance system. Thus, they motivated them to gain additional private health insurance, which would offer them access to quality healthcare services and secure admission to private clinics.
