Bioeconomy has emerged as a critical pillar of European Union’s sustainability agenda, aiming to promote economic growth, while addressing social inequality and environmental degradation. This study examines the impact of bioeconomy-related sectors on GDP per capita, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and poverty rates across 28 EU countries from 2012 to 2020, using panel data regression models. The results indicate key differences across sectors regarding economic contributions, environmental trade-offs, and social implications. While agriculture and manufacturing contribute positively to economic growth and poverty reduction, certain sectors—such as accommodation—exhibit trade-offs between economic gains and environmental costs. Moreover, labour productivity in construction is paradoxically linked to increased poverty, highlighting potential structural imbalances. The study offers actionable insights for EU policymakers, emphasizing the need for sector-specific strategies that align bioeconomic growth with environmental integrity and social equity.
