The concept of effectiveness is of great importance for the evaluation of various systems and is a concept that varies depending on the system under consideration and the requirements set by the user. For example, the concept of effectiveness is defined differently for a weapon system and the concept of effectiveness can be defined differently, e.g. as energy efficiency or as availability or as reliability for a ship's propulsion system. According to the literature, various ways of assessing the efficiency of a system have been proposed, from theoretical simulation models to the implementation of experimental campaigns. Physical simulation models aim to calculate the performance characteristics of marine engines, and which require specific measurements for calibration and verification of their predictive ability, which are not always available or are not easy to obtain on a warship that has strict operational requirements. AI models are based on a very large amount of experimental data for training and verification, which in the case of warships is not always available. In contrast to the models and the corresponding engine diagnostic systems, the present thesis proposes the utilization and the appropriate modification of the multiplicative model E = ADC, which allows the estimation of the effectiveness E of a system based on the determination of the availability vector A, the dependability matrix D and the capability vector C. This specific model has been proposed in the past by a corresponding committee of the U.S. Air Force for the estimation of the effectiveness of weapons systems and in the present thesis for the first time is modified appropriately by selecting the matrices A, D and C in order to compare the effectiveness of the COGOG system of the S-type frigates, the CODOG system of the MEKO 200-type frigates and the CODAD system of the FDI frigates. The application of the proposed effectiveness model for these three combined propulsion systems showed that the CODAD system of the FDI frigates has the greatest effectiveness compared to the other two systems.
