"Game Theory" focuses on the study of elements concerning situations of competitive interdependence with special emphasis on the decision-making of the interacting actors. Essentially, by using simple calculations, it is possible to 'predict' the way of decision making of the acting members in a competitive field - environment between them. The term 'game' is actually anything but a game. That is, it refers to any human situation under conditions of uncertainty.
Game theory is an important tool for analyzing strategic interactions between rational actors, particularly in international environmental accidents involving multiple actors with conflicting interests. Such incidents, such as oil spills and industrial disasters, have 5 wider implications and require international cooperation. Managing these crises requires decision-making under uncertainty, where those involved have to balance their individual interests with the need for collective action. Game theory provides tools for the development of prevention, management and recovery policies.
