Quality of life is one of the most important issues in contemporary society, especially in an
era where population aging and demographic changes increasingly affect people's lives.
Understanding the factors that shape quality of life, particularly in individuals over the age of
50, is crucial for developing policies and interventions aimed at improving their well-being.
This study focuses on evaluating quality of life, using data from the SHARE (Survey of Health,
Ageing and Retirement in Europe) - Wave 8, with a focus on the CASP-12 scale, which
measures key dimensions of quality of life such as control, autonomy, self-actualization and
satisfaction. The aim of the study is to explore the relationship between quality of life and
various demographic, economic and psychological factors that may influence it. For this
purpose, statistical techniques such as Factor Analysis are applied to confirm the structure of
the CASP-12 scale, while Logistic Regression is used to assess the impact of variables such as
age, education, economic status, physical and mental health on overall quality of life. Initially,
the concept of quality of life and the primary methods for measuring it are presented, with an
emphasis on psychometric scales, particularly CASP-12. The methodology of the study is then
described, including the statistical techniques and the criteria for reliability and validity.
Thereafter, the results of the analysis are presented and compared among different population
groups, highlighting differences and similarities in quality of life based on geographic location.
The work concludes with the formulation of key findings. The main findings of the study
emphasize the importance of autonomy, control and self-actualization as key dimensions of
quality of life. Factor Analysis revealed two main factors, where the first is related to a positive
attitude and general satisfaction while the other reflects one’s limitations and negative
experiences. Logistic Regression confirmed that variables such as education, economic status
and health have a significant impact on quality of life.
