This study examines the emerging scenario of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) and its integration into geographies and industries. In a systematic review of 131 peer-reviewed articles, significant theme areas such as technological advances, regulating policies, trending industries, and barriers shaping GSCM development and its challenges are identified. There is a worldwide move towards harmonization of supply chains with sustainability objectives through advances in blockchain, artificial intelligence, and circular economy, facilitated by supporting policies such as the European Green Deal and carbon pricing.
Lack of uniformity in regulating laws and economic restrictions, however, hinders general adoption. With a timeline analysis, a heightened emphasis on technological interventions has been seen over the ten years, driven by Industry 4.0 and increased urgency for climate action. On a parallel note, the study finds a role for academia through best practice dissemination and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Synthesizing these, the study presents a comprehensive picture of GSCM in its current scenario and its implications for global supply chain sustainability. Overall, in conclusion, it promotes enhancing policy frameworks, participatory approaches with increased stakeholders, and focused studies for closing current gaps and accelerating the use of sustainable supply chain processes at a worldwide level.
