This thesis focuses on the evaluation of various existing educational platforms for distance learning in secondary education, with particular emphasis on the subject of Informatics. Initially, it introduces Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and their importance in modern education, as well as the basic principles of distance learning, which seems to be flourishing rapidly, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. This is followed by an analysis and evaluation of specific educational platforms based on a number of criteria, which are divided into four main categories - pedagogical, technical, functional and economic. Some examples of the criteria such as usability, interactivity and students’ evaluation tools lead to important conclusions about the effectiveness of such platforms and the way they can support the educational process.
The thesis is complemented by the development and design of a customized educational platform for teaching third grade Informatics, using Google Classroom. The platform will be designed to enhance the learning experience, basically seeking easy organization and management of the course, with interactive content and possibilities for assigning tasks and grading students.
Through this study and analysis, the aim is to contribute to the evolution of online education and in particular to the way that Computer Science is effectively taught through a digital environment. The contribution of the thesis lies in both the critical analysis of existing alternatives and the practical application through a customized platform, which can be used as a model for future improvements and further support in distance learning. At the same time, special emphasis is placed on the security of personal data, while highlighting the importance of user protection in such digital learning environments.
