In this thesis, the concept-definition of Content Delivery Network (CDN), its evolution to the modern technologies that exist in the present era, the progress that has been achieved and the various network models with the conflation of other related technologies with Content Delivery Networks are presented. It also details the current trends in this technology with the respective architectures being utilized and gives a broad picture of how this technology is evolving and where it is heading. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate the importance of Content Delivery Networks in the Internet ecosystem and the new practices of large commercial CDNs. Finally, the future trends and conclusions drawn from current developments and possible directions that research can take are discussed.
