Abstract

Shipping, as one of the most hazardous industries, presents an increased risk of accidents, which can have profound consequences for people, the environment, and property. This paper will focus on the statistical analysis of the causes of maritime accidents using historical data from international maritime databases. A risk analysis will be performed to identify and evaluate the main factors leading to accidents and to propose risk reduction and safety improvement strategies in shipping. Data processing will highlight the most common causes of accidents (human error, technical failures, weather conditions), and risk analysis will be based on methods such as Bow-Tie or Fault Tree Analysis.
