This thesis examines the impact of cost management on the competitiveness and efficiency of shipping companies. The aim of the study is to highlight the cost reduction strategies applied in the shipping industry, as well as the role of technology and innovation in shaping sustainable and efficient business practices.
First, an analysis of the basic concepts of cost management and competitive strategy is provided, focusing on theoretical models applied in the maritime sector. The paper then explores the main factors affecting the competitiveness of shipping companies, such as operating costs, fuel price fluctuations, compliance with international regulations and technological development.
Particular emphasis is placed on cost reduction strategies such as route optimisation, the use of energy efficient technologies, the implementation of automated management systems and cooperation between shipping companies. At the same time, it examines the current challenges facing the industry, including environmental regulations and sustainable development requirements.
The results of the study show that successful cost management is not only about reducing costs, but also about the strategic use of resources leading to long-term benefits. The adoption of new technologies, compliance with environmental standards and the development of innovative business models contribute to increased efficiency and competitiveness. In conclusion, the shipping industry needs to incorporate integrated cost management strategies in order to meet today's challenges and ensure its future sustainability.
