The integration of new technologies has profoundly impacted global reality, influencing even the youngest age groups. This thesis explores the utilization of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the field of preschool education and examines their influence through game-based learning. The theoretical framework of the study is based on a selection of studies from a systematic review of Greek and international literature, aiming to illustrate educational practices in various cities worldwide. For the practical part, a questionnaire consisting of 20 questions was employed as the research tool to present data from preschool educational institutions across Greece, specifically focusing on the region of Thessaloniki.
The objectives of the literature review include:
(a) analyzing the main characteristics of 100 studies, with emphasis on their methodologies and research tools,
(b) investigating the use of ICT in educational activities through game-based learning methods that impact educational practices and foster cognitive development, and
(c) examining how digital technologies are integrated into the daily routines of preschool children.
The survey conducted through the questionnaire aims to address the above questions while also exploring the familiarity of preschool educators with the use of ICT in classrooms and their current application in Greek educational settings.
The overall findings of this thesis present a positive outlook on the use of ICT for preschool-aged children. Specifically, the research highlights the potential of technology and game-based learning in early childhood education, emphasizing both the advantages and the challenges of their implementation. When properly utilized, digital tools enhance children’s engagement, creativity, and social interaction, while also contributing to the development of cognitive, emotional, and social skills.
