The thesis is titled “Processing Personal Data in Citizen Journalism and the Phenomenon of Doxxing” and explores the interaction between citizen journalism and the protection of personal data, focusing specifically on the issue of doxxing. With the advent of new technologies and the widespread use of the internet, traditional forms of communication and information dissemination have largely been replaced by digital platforms and social media. Citizen journalism has emerged as a new form of reporting, where ordinary users create and share news content, thus contributing to the democratic dissemination of information. However, the ease of accessing information and personal data via the internet poses serious risks to individuals' privacy. The phenomenon of doxxing, which involves the publication and disclosure of personal information without the individual’s consent, has become a significant threat. Through digital technologies, attackers can collect and distribute sensitive information, leading to the targeting and harassment of individuals. The thesis analyzes how citizen journalism can be linked to doxxing, either unintentionally or intentionally, as citizen journalists may reveal personal data in the context of information sharing or online activism. It highlights the need for clear regulations and guidelines that balance freedom of expression and the right to information with the protection of privacy and personal data. The study concludes that, while citizen journalism enhances participatory democracy, the misuse of this freedom can lead to serious harm to the data subjects, making essential to have mechanisms in place that ensure respect for individual rights and the protection of personal data
