This Master Thesis explores the use of Ontologies as tools to support and develop historical research, focusing on the organization and management of the necessary metadata. For this purpose, an ontology was developed, through the open-source software Protégé, which acts as an ontological standard for the recording of ancient sources, proposing a flexible and efficient system of organization. It is aimed at researchers and allows efficient organization, quick access and targeted searches. On this, the ontology applied for the case study of the presentation of the sources of western Locris was based. The ontological implementation proves the functionality of the standard, while also partially filling an important research gap. The model and the case study are accompanied by their theoretical framework, the analysis of their methodology and structure, and the documentation of the choices of concepts. Finally, indicative SPARQL queries are used to highlight the practical capabilities of the application and highlight the limits of its future development. This paper offers a basis for further future development of such tools that will take advantage of the possibilities of data interconnection, organization and analysis to advance historical research.
