This paper provides an in-depth exploration of wine tourism, a growing niche in the wider tourism industry. It begins with a discussion of basic conceptual approaches to tourism and provides an overview of alternative forms of tourism. It then delves into the concept of wine tourism and its connection with other forms of tourism, as well as the characteristics and behaviour of wine tourists. It also examines the structure of the wine sector, including the history of wine and the factors influencing demand. It also explores the technological background of wine production facilities, with a focus on future trends and digital technologies in wine production. The paper further examines the contribution of technology to wine tourism and the stages of a visit to places of interest, as well as wine tourism in Greece and abroad, including the motivations of wine tourists and wine routes in Greece. Finally, the paper concludes with an analysis of the prospects for the development and dissemination of wine tourism in Greece, including a SWOT analysis.
