The use of renewable energy sources has become increasingly important in recent years
for environmental, economic, and geopolitical reasons. The recent pandemic of Covid-19 and
the Russian-Ukrainian war have both disrupted energy security and exacerbated the need for
energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables. In order for this transition to be successful,
public awareness and social acceptance on renewable markets is necessary. This research
attempts an assessment of public awareness, drawing on Anglophone literature on the issue. It
utilizes different examples of markets around the globe to observe the public’s behavior on
renewables and the variables that influence it. The geographical division of this thesis is in
conversation with geopolitics and the particularities of territoriality. Through this research, the
different reasons why renewable resources may be accepted or resisted can be seen.
Conclusions on previous research and comparative observations are also recorded.
